Lampi, Gary Ivan June 12, 1946 – June 20, 2016

In gratitude and appreciation for a lifetime, his family and friends announce Gary’s passing & acknowledge that “In every sunset awaits the promise of a sunrise.” In Gary’s sunset are his wife Susan (nee Oliver), his son’s Ian (wife Karen Walker), Simon (wife Tammy Freeman) and his daughter Allison (husband Marc Leblanc); grandchildren Rebecca, Sarah, Samuel, Noah, Elias, Sofie & Maverick; brothers Jack (wife Karen), Rick (wife Pierrette) & Kelvin (wife Linda); many nieces & nephews, aunt Tynne Hawryliuk & many cousins and friends. Gary is predeceased by infant son Roy Patrick Lampi (1978), his parents Eino & Helvi and his brother Lendelle. Born in Levack, ON. Gary graduated college in Sault Ste. Marie, ON., where he met & married Susan (1968). He returned to the Greater Sudbury area residing in Whitefish (his paternal heritage) and was employed by Falconbridge / Xstrata at various mine sites; retiring in 1999, he nurtured his family and community in multiple roles including recreational and competitive sport, Playground Association, Whitefish Lion’s Club, Crean Hill Gun Club, Onaping Centennial Homecoming Committee.
Hunting and fishing activities were enjoyed throughout his lifetime and enthusiastically encouraged these activities. He captured most of these experiences on camera for us to enjoy. A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be held at the Nairn Community Centre, Saturday June 25, 2016 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. at 64 McIntyre St. Nairn Centre.

  2. Gary was my first shiftboss at Falconbridge. I credit him with showing me how a calm, respectful manner will get you respect from your crew. I enjoyed seeing him again at his turkey shoots. He was a genuinely good guy. I have nothing but respect for Gary. Rest in peace.
