Ireland, Rita (nee Cayen)

It is with heavy hearts we share news of the passing of Rita Pierrette Ireland, 86, beloved wife of more than 67 years to Howard Ireland.  Loving mother of Jo-Ann Mlakar (John), Jayne Kolbe (Ron) & Jillian White (Kevin – predeceased).  Beloved Mémére to John, Wayne, Diedre, Jenni, Jason, Sam, Carly and  great-grandmother of Melinda, Maylynn, Brian, Caitlyn, Kaycie, Tristan, Simone, Brandon, Dakota, Noah, Benjamin, Maddison, Kennedy, Hudson, Lola, Charlotte and Isla.

Born in Kirkland Lake the youngest of 13 children of Jean Baptiste & Jane Cayen (both predeceased), who she treasured.  She often shared such fond memories of growing up on the farm in Englehart.  Rita began her career in nursing after they moved their young family to Sudbury in 1961.

Rita made friends wherever she went.  She had a gift to relate and share her wit and readiness to laugh with any fortunate enough to make her acquaintance.  Even in later years, she was always up for shenanigans.  She could always be counted on for support, encouragement & insight.  We will especially miss her “hellooo” on the phone, along with that sharp mind and loving heart. 

Our sorrow is only overshadowed by our gratitude for wonderful memories.

As per Rita’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
