Dumas, Maurice “Moe”

It is with the saddest of hearts the family announce Maurice’s passing on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at the age of 89 years. Moe lived life to the fullest up until the last month of his life - truly a blessing. As a youngster he would quit school and move to the family hunt camp where he would live a “Huck Finn” experience. Soon joined there by younger brothers Nelson and Ernie, the boys would have a series of adventures and misadventures. Together they would make their way North to work in lumber camps and various jobs. Ultimately life would steer Maurice to Duhamel Sand and Gravel where he would meet and marry the love of his life Jacquie Duhamel (predeceased 2003). Maurice worked as an independent trucker. He was a skilled driver and heavy equipment operator and would pass on his work ethic to sons Victor (Andrea) and Jamie (Cheryl). But Moe would save his best role for last as “papa and pere” to his beloved grandkids Jessie (Julia), Katie, Ryan and Kayla (Cameron). For them he would build swings, tree cabins and even demonstrate how to use stilts. Moe’s “peppery” language and stories would always delight the kids and entertain others. The icing on the cake for Maurice would be the arrival of great grandkids Jake and Leah – they were getting “mushed” whether they wanted it or not! Maurice loved the simple things in life proclaiming daily “it is a great day to be alive”!  We will try to emulate that philosophy. The family would like to thank the awesome Dumas clan for their love and support over the years - Darlene, Claire (Robert), Janet and Tracy - you have been outstanding. Deceased siblings Nelson, Ernie, Raymond, Bernice and Peter are waiting on the other side. There are fond memories of the Duhamel family - special thanks to Hélène and Mike Joly for their support over the years. Shout out to HSN 7B North and Dr Ewing Bui for wonderful care. Funeral arrangements are private at Maurice’s request. Rest well dad - you earned it.
