Wojnas, Sigmund “Sig”

Born in Germany to Polish parents, January 31 1946, Sig arrived in Canada at age three where the family settled in Kirkland Lake. Survived by his loving sister Luci, he enjoyed visiting the Niagara region where she lived with her late husband Bruce. Sig led an adventurous life working underground in gold mines, working worldwide as part of an exploration crew and settled into electronic hardware repair before finishing his career with a local engineering company.  Living for nearly 40 years in Skead on Lake Wanapitei, Sig enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of his time fishing the local lakes and rivers, cross country skiing and mountain biking.

During most of these adventures you could also find young Buddy Green, eager to learn about the outdoors, work on science projects, dig through Sig’s extensive rock and mineral collection and snorkel in the lakes looking for fish.  This was a very close relationship that would last till the very end where Grandpa Sig would have weekly dinners with Buddy, Lea and Hudson and was Mabel’s favorite babysitter.

Sig passed away at the age of 77 on December 18, 2023 at Health Sciences North.

Thank you to Dr. Gopalakrishnan and his oncology team, as well as Dr. Jackson and everyone at H.S.N. for everything they did. Donations would be greatly appreciated to the Northeast Cancer Centre.

As per Sig’s wishes there will be no service.
