Vellow, Peter Erick

Peter Erick Vellow passed away peacefully at the Elizabeth Centre, Val Caron on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at the age of 90 with family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of Heather Ann (Bonnie) Vellow (nee McNicol) (predeceased), married for 59 years.  The loving father of Kimberly (Carl) Bergenstein, Sidney, BC, Robert (Charlene) Vellow, St. Albert, AB, Peter Vellow (Lori Paul), Hanmer, ON and Todd (Kary) Vellow, Val Caron, ON.  He was an adored grandfather to Kristin and Miranda Bergenstein, Keirra and Everett Vellow, Dalton and Chase Vellow and Emma Vellow.  He was the son of the late Edward Vellow and Lily Vellow (nee Andersen).  He was brother to Veeda Armstrong and Frank Hans Vellow (predeceased).

Peter was proud that he was raised on the Gatineau River.  He moved to Coniston in his early 20’s, where he met Bonnie.  They married in 1961.  Peter and Bonnie lived in a few areas around Sudbury, then finally settled in Levack.  They enjoyed spending time at their camp on Okawakenda Lake which they had built and maintained for 32 years.

Peter was considerate and thoughtful.  He had a lot of passion for anything ‘bush’ related.  He loved to fish; however, hunting was the top of the list.  Conservation, preservation and personal safety was always at the top of his mind.  He was always prepared to ensure that he, everyone and everything around him were always safe and protected.  When not in the bush he was either tinkering in the garage or planning the next trip to camp.  When anyone met him one of the first things that they would learn about him was that he was a hunter, with a passion for guns.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Elizabeth Centre for the compassionate care that Peter and the family received.

There will be a small gathering at the burial site to honour Peter and Bonnie at the Lasalle Boulevard Cemetery, 298 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury on Monday August 10, 2026.

  1. Dear Kim and family
We are sending you all our deepest condolences on your dad’s passing. Keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers. It was like yesterday when we were neighbours on 6th Ave in Levack. Those were the days, when 6th Ave was full of kids playing hide and seek and riding bikes. Time sure flies! The Wolfram Family (Ingrid, Angelika (Geli, Angela) and Dietmar)
