Toner, Linda Joyce

September 16, 1952 to October 20, 2023

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Linda Joyce Toner announces her passing, on Friday October 20, 2023 at Health Sciences North. Having been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in June 2020, Linda was able to put a stop to her pain and suffering with the help of M. A. I. D.

Linda had a big personality and lived life to the fullest. Motivated by kindness and generosity, Linda touched the lives of everyone she met. Linda was a strong woman who often said “cry me a river, build a bridge and get over it” as a way to motivate others to make the best of things and move on. She was fondly referred to as “the boss” or “the sheriff” by her family because of her ability to find an answer to any question or resolve any type of situation. She always made herself available whenever needed and felt much accomplishment from being the caregiver to her loved ones. Her sense of humor, art for storytelling, and ability to voice her opinions without hesitation will be missed dearly.

Linda is survived by her husband, soul mate, and best friend of 37.5 years, Wayne Toner, and by their children, Erica Toner (Kyle Woodward) Logan Toner, Jacob Toner (Leah Perrault) and Staci Toner.

Linda was a proud grandma to Lola, Zoey, Nora and Freya. She loved spending quality time with her granddaughters and showering them with admiration.

She will be deeply missed by her mother, Joyce Phillips, her sister Christine, her brother Michael and by her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Linda will also be missed by her longtime friend Gayle Lindsay, her university friends Heather and Rob Pearson and her friend Shirley Johnston (Grandma Shirley to the family).

Linda was predeceased by her father (John) Roy Tennant Sr.

Linda received her Social Work Degree from Laurentian University in 1978. Her career included working in both the private and public sectors. Linda worked for the Ontario Government in Sudbury for the last 16 years of her working career. She retired as Manager, Compliance Inspection, Sudbury Health and Long Term Care.

Linda passed peacefully with her family at her side. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Bryston’s On the Park, 5 Creighton Road, Copper Cliff from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00p.m. Linda requests that people can make donations to the Terry Ames Care Fund at Northern Cancer Foundation or a charity of your choice.

  6. I reconnected with Linda a few years ago on Facebook. I was so happy that she had not changed in the many years I hadn’t seen her. She had a great memory and reminded of some great times so long ago. She was so honest and and fun to be with. Whoever wrote this obituary captured the Linda I remembered.. my thoughts are with her family in these difficult times. She was a great lady.

  8. Linda and my siblings were great friends in our teenage years. We reconnected again and I was delighted to see that Linda’s nature had not changed one bit. She was direct, funny and brutally honest. I wish we had gotten together but the pandemic and life got in our way. Godspeed Linda. I know you will be so missed by so many. XO.

  9. Sometimes in your life you are very lucky if you meet special people. For me, two of those people who helped me during a dark time of my life were Linda and Wayne Toner. I am here today because of them. I will always remember Linda and the encouragement that she gave me in our conversations and correspondence. They are two good people. May the memory of Linda always live on among her family and friends and be a comfort. I will be eternally grateful. I offer my deepest sympathy to her family. To Linda and Wayne, I will always say thank you.
