Purvis, Wendy Esther Rae (nee Abrams)

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Wendy Esther Rae Purvis (nee Abrams), 68 years of age, who passed away peacefully at Health Sciences North on October 8th, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her devoted family.  Wendy was born on September 30th, 1953, to Raymond and Madeliene Abrams (predeceased) in Sudbury, Ontario.  She married her soulmate, Dennis James Purvis of Pembroke, Ontario on June 30th, 1973.   They went on to have three beautiful children:  Corey (Annie), Rebecca and Brandi (Pauly).  Cherished and loving grandma to Mackenzie and Tyler.  Dear sister of Brian Abrams and Jim Abrams (predeceased) (Mary Ann).  Special aunt to many nieces and nephews.  She was more than a mom; she was a best friend.  Her door was always open; making everyone feel like family. Her meals, baking and company fed your soul.  Wendy was an avid knitter, seamstress and crocheter; many friends and family benefited from her talents.  Everyone has a memory of Wendy at Sidney’s.  We were so fortunate to have a mom who supported and encouraged us to be better people.  She was the definition of unconditional love and will be missed more than anyone can ever imagine.  The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the doctors at Princess Margaret, Dr. Singh of the Northeast Cancer Centre, and the care she received from the nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit at HSN.  In keeping with Wendy’s wishes an interment service will be held on Friday, October 22nd at 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon at Maplecrest Cemetery in Dowling.  A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the home of Corey and Annie at 71 Larchmont Drive, Dowling. Friends welcomed between 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

  1. My Condolences to Dennis and family & the Abrams family…
So many fond younger year memories that I am reminded of during past years of the “special times” together growing up, will never be forgotten. I consider myself one of the fortunate ones to have had both Wendy and Dennis as friends.
Losing someone hurts like heck… It’s part of human life that each one of us goes through sooner or later!
It’s difficult to even find the words …
MY heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to each one of you…
Thinking of you during this difficult time…

  2. I moved away from Levack after high school but certainly remember Wendy as a fun person who always had a smile on her face and never a bad word to be said about anyone.
I know the pain you are going through and Wendy went through as well. Right now I am fighting my own battle with cancer. It has not been a great year. And oddly enough my oncologist name is Dr. Singh as well.

I wish you all peace during this difficult time. Remember the joys and happy memories that will get you through this.

    Sincerely,

    Bernice

  13. Deepest sympathy to all of you who were so close to Wendy. She always told me that I should have been Aunt Madeliene’s daughter because I was fussy like my Aunt and she was laid back like my Mom. Two sisters who were very different and two cousins the same as each other’s mother. Love and will miss you always Wendy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dennis, Corey, Becky and Brandi along with Brian! Will be thinking of you all.
