Pomykala, Shirley (nee Laplante)

August 3, 1945- August 21, 2023

We bid farewell to an extraordinary woman on August 21st, 2023. Whether you knew her as mom, nana, nanie bananie, Momma Pomykala, or Shirl, you were lucky to have met this remarkable lady. Her doors were always open, ready to welcome anyone with open arms. She was always willing to share not just a meal, but stories, photos, and even her famous after eight bars. No one left her house empty-handed. Her happiness and joy were contagious, freely given to all. Family meant the world to her, and she played the role of go-to person flawlessly. She'd spend hours on the phone with you, offering unwavering support. Countless family gatherings, camping trips, and adventures were meticulously planned by her, ensuring every moment was filled with love and laughter. She cherished her visits to Chicago, Poland, and Germany to see her beloved in-laws, and her absence will be deeply felt by everyone there. Though she may no longer be with us, the values she instilled in us will endure forever.

Shirley has now joined her beloved husband, Josef Pomykala. She was an incredible mother to Mike (Ann Favaro) and Trish, a proud nan to her pumpkin Anthony, Caleb, and Hope, and a cherished great nani to her Princess Livia, Shilah, and Taaliya. She held a special bond with her sister Diane (late Denis) and brother Don. She was predeceased by her brothers Raymond (Louise), Paul (Danielle), Fern, Maurice, as well as sisters Suzanne (Jean Guy) and Joan. Numerous nieces and nephews will miss her dearly. And let's not forget her furry friend Frankie, who she adored "babysitting" whenever possible. Her pup brought her immense comfort during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations made directly to Maison McCulloch Hospice https://maisonsudburyhospice.org/  are greatly appreciated.

Mass will be held on August 25, 2023 at 11am at Holy Redeemer Parish, followed by a Celebration of Life.
