It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Louis Marie Poirier at Health Sciences North after a lengthy battle with many health issues on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the age of 83 years. Born in Field, ON he was the son of the late Xavier and Alexine Poirier. Loving husband of the late Danielle Poirier (nee Maisonneuve). He will be sadly missed by his children Daniel (Juliette), Yves (Connie), Louise (Anthony) and their mother Leanne Deschatelets. Devoted grandfather of Joel, Crystal, Matthieu, Greta, Sydney and Zoe. Great-grandfather of Willow and Felix. Cherished brother of Leandre (Jeanne), Marie (Merlan), Gatanne, Aldegone, Emeline, Ozall, Clement and Andre. He will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. A special thank you to Arnold and Helen Arcand for 40+ years of friendship and for always being there for Louis and all his needs. Louis worked at Falconbridge (Glencore) as a Miner from 1968-1998 when he retired and then worked for Belanger Construction. He will be remembered for his love of life, fishing, boating, camping, working around his yard, joking, playing guitar, singing, cooking, his great fish frys and always being the life of the party. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Health Sciences North for all you that did, Thank you to Barvinok for all that you did for Louis, Extendicare York staff, especially Tiffany whom he was very thankful for the love and care you provided to him during his stay. In keeping with Louis’s wishes, there will be no service or visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
