Poirier, Joel Roger

March 13, 1986 - May 2, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joel Roger John-Paul Poirier, on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, peacefully at his home. Born on March 13th, 1986, in Sudbury, Ontario, Joel was the beloved son of Roger Poirier and Susan Derro-Tosato, both predeceased.  He will be deeply missed by his surviving sister Amy Bertrand (Chris) of Naughton and brother Gregory Tosato (Carrie-Anne) of Sydney, Australia. Cherished uncle to Teegan, Callie, and Abigail. Special grandson of Betty Derro (predeceased). Joel will be remembered fondly by his aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joel was a graduate of Lasalle Secondary School and Cambrian College. He was a man of few words, but his kind and genuine nature always shined through. Joel enjoyed the simple things in life: a rockin’ 80’s tune, an episode of the Price is Right, a bus ride around the city and a good meal shared with family.

A special thank you to Sudbury Developmental Services’ SIL program that provided Joel with kindness and guidance over the last few months. Joel was fortunate to be a part of this organization that showered him with respect, dignity and independence.

Cremation has taken place and interment will follow at the Civic Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Sudbury Developmental Services Supported Independent Living Program Make a Donation | Sudbury Developmental Services (sudburyds.ca) would be greatly appreciated.

A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind”
