Pharand, Herbert William

Herbert William Pharand son of Mildred McAllister and Omer Pharand passed away at his home in Sudbury, Ontario on January 15th, 2021 at the age of 78. Herb was born on August 17th, 1942 and was raised in the Flour Mill. He worked in and out of Sudbury over the years but always remained a true Sudburian at heart. Herb enjoyed life and some of his long-time friends were able to share a few last moments with him. When diagnosed with esophageal cancer, Herb was optimistic he would beat this cancer and resume his long daily walks by Ramsey Lake and visit family in the summer. Within a very short time Herb’s fight would not be fought and his last step would be the hardest and most courageous as he chose to leave this world with medical assistance in dying.  He did not die alone and was accompanied by loved ones. As he said, this was his last trip. Herb was the second child of a family of ten children. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Richard, Donald, Sylvia, Gary, Linda, Brenda, Suzanne, Julianne and Claudia. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Herb requested to be cremated. Due to the pandemic situation his ashes will be interred at a future date when family and friends may commemorate his life in a private gathering. Many thanks to the nurses and doctors of the Northeast Cancer Centre, Nurse Practionner Claire Warren and Nurse Lynne Lavallée. A special thank you to his buddies Rennie Mastin, André Clément, Bob Del Frate, and godson Reynolds Mastin Jr.

  1. We have known Herb since we were teenagers. Although we never socialized closely we knew each other well , It was always a pleasure to meet with him. He was gregarious and had a unique sense of humour. All topics of conversation were on the table and guaranteed to be engaging. Herb’s sense of presence in the community will be missed. 6. WOW i am totally shocked to read about Herb’s passing…my deepest sympathy to all his family and friends. I was very close to Herb and dealt with him at my store when i lived in that city….we did lose track of each other over the years since i moved to a different province. Herb was an honest and good realtor and person, i always enjoyed connecting and talking to him. RIP Herb
