In loving memory of Blain Victor Olivier who passed away peacefully on Saturday November 1st, 2025 at the age of 87 at his home on Lake Wanapitei. He was the devoted husband and best friend to Gail (Morbin), loving father of Bucky (Monique), Kary (John), and Paul (Marie Josée) and cherished grandfather to Anna, Katie, and Wyatt.
Blain was the loving son of his parents, Dorothy (Mort) Lafrance and Renaldo (Dado) Olivier, who predeceased him, the beloved brother of Janet Roy (late George), Fay Csantos (Les), Diane Korpela (late Oliver), and Paulette Charbonneau (Larry).
He was born in Sudbury, growing up in Falconbridge and then Skead where he was a parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Bernadine of Sienna.
Buck (as he was affectionately known) was retired from Laurentian University after many years of teaching chemistry in the lab. His students have fond memories of how passionate and encouraging of a teacher he was and he had a lasting impact on the students who passed through his lab. Buck owned and operated Lakeland Lodge on an island on Lake Wanapitei along with his wife and best friend Gail where he resided until his passing.
He was an avid outdoorsman. Buck’s enthusiasm for the wilderness was infectious and he loved spending time in the wilderness with his family, friends, and guests of the Lodge. He enjoyed breaking new trails, navigating lost canoe routes and discovering new lakes. He was an explorer at heart and with a deep knowledge and appreciation of the history of the local area.
Buck was a kind, compassionate, and dynamic man who could light up a room with his stories and his laughter. For us, as our father he was larger than life, and in our eyes, there was nothing he could not do. He was a role model of integrity and honesty and made the world a better place.
The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Dr. Krawczuk for his care.
“May there be comfort in knowing that someone so special will never be forgotten.”

My warmest condolences to the Olivier family. Bucky was a kind, sincere and generous man who made a very large impression on me. We met in the Chemistry laboratory in the Sciences building at Laurentian University. For several years following, I joined large groups of students flocking to surround him in the lab to listen attentively to his charismatic and passionate teaching that was always interspersed with joyful stories about his wilderness adventures with his family. He was a great role model who instilled and inspired many students (myself included particularly) to develop a passion for the sciences and a desire to live similar wilderness adventures with my own family. I know that he will be greatly missed by his wonderful family and many friends. God bless the Olivier family and lighten your sorrow. May he finally see the face of God and rest in Christ’s Love and Peace.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Bucky. He was not only a wonderful teacher, but a true mentor who shaped the way I approach others. The patience he demonstrated and taught — especially when working with students — will always be a part of who you are. His guidance helped you grow not only in skill, but in compassion, and that is a legacy that lasts.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

Sincere condolences to Gail and family for the passing of a great man. I learned so much from Bucky about the outdoors, especially bear hunting, and I will always be extremely grateful for the opportunities to spend time at the lodge. Buck always treated me and my family “like family.” Rest easy Bucky and enjoy the time sitting around telling your great stories with so many who passed before you.
Love,
Corey, Mandy, Jackson and Josie

Condolences to Gail and family. I have fond memories of Bucky, his energy and excitement for all things “nature.” Always enjoyed taking orphaned or abandoned animals out to the island and spending time there, listening to stories and adventures. Bullwinkle a favorite.
He will be missed.
