Oberholzer, Neil Louwrens Martinus

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Neil, who left us on November 7, 2023 at the age of 90.

Neil is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Sheran (nee Trapnell), and brother, Dean Wenborne (Erla); his children, Paul, Susan Huot (Denis) and Kenneth (Joanne).  Neil was predeceased by son, Allan.  Neil was also a special dad to Bonnie Bache (Ralph), Diana Gordon (Mark) and Darryl Gordon (Heather).

He was Grandpa to Charles, Stefanie, Sarah, David, Cameron, Briar, Colton, Gessica and Tabitha and Poppa to his great-grandchildren, Thomas, Abigail, Grace, Silas, Isabelle and Jack.  Neil will also be missed by his nieces, Linda Henderson (Gary) and Lori Wenborne.

Born near Pretoria, South Africa, Neil moved to the Brocton area of New York state as a young boy and then later to the French River area.  He led a full and interesting life, serving 25 years with the Canadian Armed Forces, Air Force Division, with which he travelled the world.  He became an expert in the electronics field and retired with the rank of Sergeant.  In his retirement, he settled back in the French River area.  He had a wonderful sense of humour and could tell endless jokes and stories, entertaining everyone around him.  Neil loved his family without question and he will be very much missed by everyone who knew him.

“As per Neil’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.”

My condolences to both of you. I never met you Sheran, but Neil would talk about you

  7. To Sheran and families: So sorry for your loss! We didn’t know Neil as well as others but we did know via stories from Stef. He will be missed by family and friends.
He was so welcoming to us when our David married Stef. On one occasion I like the F word drop … Neil looked right me and said ” She’ll do…she fits right in. ” God bless all!
