Patrick lived life to the fullest and was well known for his incredible sense of humour. He always said ‘90 and out’…but he was having too much fun and stayed until the age 96, hanging up his skates for good on Friday, May 22nd,2026 in the loving presence of his sister Marina and his niece Karen.
Always looking for a laugh and a good time, his true passions were family, big game hunting, his Irish heritage and of course, the Montreal Canadians. After playing junior hockey in Ontario, he took his talents south of the border where he took a contract with the US Army, stationed in Vietnam during the war as an electrician. He continued to travel with his love of hunting taking him everywhere from Alaska to Africa, establishing his reputation as a very talented big game hunter. When he wasn’t dancing to Irish music, or watching the Canadiens, he was on the road, never forgetting to send souvenirs, t-shirts and pictures to his McCourt family back in Northern Ontario. He was often found in his Irish attire, kilt included, and/or a hockey jersey. Despite requesting to take all the ladies out dancing or skating, it was his wife Kathy who won his heart- she was even willing to join him in his little trailer during hunting season. Family was his first priority, he was fiercely proud to be a McCourt and wore many personalized T-shirt’s and hats to advertise it. He spent his later years in Florida and was a member of the Knights of Columbus within his parish.
He leaves behind his cherished younger sister Marina Lamoureux (Maurice- predeceased), and caring niece Karen McCourt (Tom- predeceased). Patrick had a particularly close bond with his nephew Tom, with whom he developed a close and loving relationship which meant a great deal to him. Patrick will also be remembered by Cindy Fauvelle (Neil) and her son Derick. He was a loving and generous son, brother, uncle, and surrogate grandfather to many great (great) nieces and nephews. He will be fondly missed by them all.
He is predeceased by his wife Katharine (McAbee) and his immediate family: mother Nellie (Cull) and father Charles McCourt, brothers Red (Ruth), Arnold (Cecile), Frank (Lillian), Michael (June) and sister Aurelia (Jimmy). The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Cranberry staff at Pioneer Manor, particularly Sylvia, Colleen, Angie, and Kristy who helped make his final moments peaceful. Internment will be held at St. John’s Cemetery in Garson, Saturday, June 6th, 2026 at 2pm.

Uncle Paddy certainly had personality. After not seeing him for a number of years we reconnected in Florida when Tom and Karen brought him to our place for a visit. My husband John and I were preparing to pour a cement pad in our back yard and Paddy insisted on helping. He must have been in his late seventies or early eighties and on a very hot day he arrived at our doorstep ready to work, which he certainly did. He also went bicycling with me around the neighborhood, which he hadn’t done in years, but I don’t think the word NO was in his vocabulary. I’m sure he is organizing a big dance for all the relatives in heaven.

My wife and I had the privileged of knowing Patrick for several years and got to be great friends during his tenure here in Clearwater, FL. Of course we met Karen and Tom and enjoyed good times with them also. He could be stubborn now and then like any good Irishman but I have some Irish and German so I usually won! I was especially adamant when it came to who was going to drive! His hunting days were passed when we met but he had some great stories, photos, and trophies. He will forever be in our hearts.

Uncle Patrick had some very special and unique experiences throughout his life. He reminisced over the years and had us laughing as he remembered his youth. His hockey career were some of his proudest memories and he was happy to share his photos with us. Lots of early childhood memories for our family. In later years we welcomed him into our home and the stories continued around the dinner table. He sure was a happy character who has left us with fond memories.

I will always remember Uncle Paddy as a happy go lucky gentleman who loved family always. Many times were spent around kitchen tables, especially in Falconbridge and Simcoe with all the Uncle, Aunts and Cousins where there was plenty of cheer and singing. Grandma and Grandpa McCourt always had family and neighbours in the rec room which was filled with Uncle Paddy’s prized animals stuffed along with a great marlin also over the table in the recroom. Grandma played the fiddle, Grandpa called the dances and everyone was so happy. Thanks for all the great memories Uncle Paddy, we will miss you always but forever in our hearts.

Well written Karen, you covered all the highlights of his life, What you did not know was he had the first GTO car in the Sudbury area, and it was pretty fancy to get a ride from him, and as a young man when Patrick came to town, he was great to show us around town in his car. I will be there for the mass and the service. See you all then.
