Lawrence, Donald (Don)

Surrounded by the love of family, Donald (Don) George Lawrence peacefully left this world at Health Sciences North in Sudbury on Thursday, September 3rd, 2026 at the age of 75.

He will be deeply missed by his best friend and wife, Janice Lawrence, his treasured son David Lawrence (wife Meagan), his beloved daughters, Jennifer Kirwan (husband Corey) and Tracy Barrette (husband Luc). He will be forever loved by his cherished grandchildren Leah Lawrence, Karina and Riley Kirwan, Jackson and Cole Barrette.

He was born on February 21st, 1951, in Sudbury to Elsie (Passmore) and Wilbert Lawrence (both predeceased). They instilled in him the qualities of compassion, generosity and strength that he displayed in his actions and words. He was a dear brother of Sandra Lawrence and Laurie (wife Darlene) Lawrence. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews and close friends.

Don’s love story with Janice began in the ninth grade at Lively District Secondary School, where they became high school sweethearts. Together, they shared 55 beautiful years of marriage, a testament to their unwavering commitment and enduring love.

Don spent his career working at Falconbridge Nickel Mines Limited. He gained a vast knowledge of the mining industry and enjoyed sharing his experiences with his colleagues and friends.

An avid outdoorsman, Don’s ultimate passion was hunting, an activity that brought him on countless adventures at his family hunt camp with his father, son, and other family members. He loved working in his garage on projects and hobbies that brought him joy throughout his life. He also spent many years on the Pickerel River, building a beautiful camp where his family gathered to make lasting memories.

More than anything, he cherished his role as “Poppa” to his grandchildren. They truly were his greatest source of pride, and the love they hold for him is immeasurable. They will forever remember the unconditional love he gave them every single day. He leaves behind a legacy of beautiful memories that his grandchildren and all who had the pleasure of knowing him will forever cherish.

To honour his wishes, there will be a private family gathering at a later day.

The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Theresa Mirka for her compassion and care.
