Born September 10th, 1939 in Kirkland Lake.
It is with deepest sorrow that the family of Betty Laforest announces her passing in Sudbury on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 at the age of 85 years. Daughter of Burford Gravestock and Agnes (nee Rouble) both predeceased. Beloved wife of the late Alfred Laforest. Loving mother to Susan Theriault (Gilles) and David Laforest. Loving grandma to Wayne Theriault (Jennifer) and Reg Theriault (Gina). Great grandma to Avalena, Juliana, Alecander, and Leonidas whom she adored. Survived by her brothers Tom (Margaret predeceased), Bob (Maryann), and Alan predeceased (Fran). Also survived by her brother in law Leo Laforest (Annette) and sister in law Carole Laforest (Richard predeceased). She was a wonderful sister in law to Gerry and Francoise, Andy and Madeleine all predeceased. Betty is lovingly remembered by all her nieces, nephews, friends, and family who treasured her many stories.
Betty loved life and lived it to the fullest. In her early days, she loved to travel, camp, fish, and snowmobile. In later years, playing cards, bingo, and slot machines were her vices. Betty was a proud employee at the Canada Revenue Agency for 17 years. Through the years, she fought many battles with her heart, having 5 pacemakers. She also had many other health issues, always bouncing back. We nicknamed her the cat with nine lives. Unfortunately, this time the cat didn’t make it back. We will miss her infectious smile and mischievous ways.
A special thank you to Betty’s wonderful neighbour nurse, Brenda Wood, and daughter Holly, who checked up often on Betty and her companion Paul Aubut (recently deceased). Betty will truly be missed by all. A celebration of life will be held at the Minnow Lake Legion, 1553 Weller St., Sudbury, on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025 from 1pm to 5pm.
I was so devastated to hear of Betty’s passing. She was a great friend who I will miss terribly when I come to Sudbury for a visit. I will miss her card games.
My sincere condolences to all the family.
