1935 - 2025
Leonard passed away quickly and peacefully at Health Sciences North August 25th with Joy by his side. Len was the beloved husband to Joy (nee Holford) and father to their son Benjamin (predeceased 1986) and their daughter Lauren Kitchener (Calen Upton). He was brother to Howard (predeceased) and son of Leonard Francis and Caroline (Milne Thornton Kitchener (both predeceased). Stepson to Irene Meaden Kitchener (predeceased) and step brother to Bud Meaden (Pat predeceased), Lynn Antle (Lorne) and Clarene Young (Bill predeceased). He was also an Uncle to many nieces and nephews and a mentor to important people in his life.
Len lived a full life with family, friends and their beloved sailboat. Leonard loved DaVinci, their third sailboat. He was fiercely proud of Lauren and her accomplishments and of the person she is. He enjoyed over 40 years of sailing the North Channel with his family, skiing in many beautiful places in the world, golfing, and reading. Leonard was an honest and kind soul. He was “one good sport” with actively supporting animal rescue with Joy and Lauren, helping foster countless kittens, cats, and pups. He so enjoyed the dinners and gatherings around the dining room table. He might not have laughed as loudly as some of us as it was not in his nature, however he so enjoyed it all.
Leonard wanted people to understand how he appreciated each person who touched his life. You were all very important to him.
Professionally, Len was active until his last day.

Dear Joy and Family,
Our deepest sympathy to you on the loss of such a gentle, special man.
Both of us were saddened to hear that Len had passed. He was always a great neighbour and friend who quietly shared a smile over some silly story or joke of the day.
Wishing you comfort from your memories of the good times you shared over the years.

My deepest condolences
A great memory for me was our time in your kitchen washing and drying your tart tins and bowls. While you produced your Ultimate Butter Tarts. Len was there at your side supporting you fund raise to make those with 4 paws better. House full of dogs and love. ((((Hugs))))
RIP Len

Sincere Condolences Joy and Family
Len was a great friend and a joy to work with when we were in the mining industry together. It was nice to be able to maintain this friendship even after retiring and your visit to see us in Nanaimo was certainly appreciated. Len will be missed by so many.
