March 1, 1949 – September 7, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Renee Jarvi, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, educator, gardener, and family matriarch.
Born and raised at the Hotel Beausejour on the French River, Helen carried a lifelong love for the river and the community that shaped her. Her cherished cottage was a place of family, laughter, and treasured memories. Later, Helen and her beloved husband, Veikko, built a beautiful home on the river, where they retired and enjoyed the life they had created together.
Helen and Veikko shared 58 years of marriage, filled with love, family, friendship, travel, and adventure. They spent winters in Florida and travelled extensively, creating memories in many beautiful places.
Helen devoted 30 years to Cambrian College, where she was a passionate and innovative educator. She pioneered the Retail Florist program and taught horticulture and many other subjects. She took great pride in her students and in sharing her knowledge, creativity, and love of plants.
Family was at the centre of Helen’s life. She was a devoted wife to Veikko and a loving mother to Melanie Hoshowsky (Borys) and Erick Jarvi (Margaret), and a proud grandmother to Larissa, Halya, Willa, Annalie, Charlotte, and Leah. She was a loving aunt to McKenzie, Richard (predeceased), Adam, Anne, Roch, Julie, Diana, David, and Paul. She was the beloved sister of Leon Bouverat (Lise) and Robert Bouverat (Karen).
Helen was a true matriarch who loved bringing people together. Her warm, welcoming home and beautiful garden were gathering places filled with celebration and lasting memories. She believed in living a beautiful, full, and meaningful life.
Helen was predeceased by her beloved parents, Gilberte and Marius Bouverat.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, beauty, knowledge, and cherished memories. Helen will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family and friends.
A Celebration of Helen’s life will take place at Paroisse Notre-Dame de Lourdes in Alban, Ontario on Saturday October 3rd, 2026 at 11:00 am.
