It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glenda Pearl Hughes (nee Good) in Sudbury, on November 28, 2021 at the age of 82. Beloved wife of Robert “Bob” Hughes. Mother to Pamela Zahara (nee Buraglia) (Nick), Jamie Buraglia, Lori Buraglia (predeceased) and Derek Hughes. Grandmother to “Little” Nick Zahara and Ava Hughes who affectionately referred to her as “Nanny”. Sister of Martin (predeceased), Graham (predeceased), Purdie (predeceased), Wentworth (predeceased), Wilma and Norma.
Born in Bathurst, New Brunswick to Doug and Marjorie (nee Peterson) Good. Glenda spent her early adult life in California, eventually moving back to Canada and ultimately settling in Sudbury, Ontario. Glenda was a strong woman with a tireless work ethic. She supported herself for a brief time as a hairdresser in the Beaches of Toronto and loved to bet on the ponies at Greenwood Off Track Racing. After meeting Bob and settling in Sudbury she went on to work 20+ years at Sears Canada.
Glenda lived life to the fullest and was fearless in how she lived. She didn’t back down from any challenge and was always eager to see new things, explore new horizons and would always tell you exactly what she thought of things. Her strength of character spilled over our entire family and her love for each of us was pure and without waiver.
She was active at the Calvin Presbyterian Church in Sudbury, participating in various church groups and gatherings. She loved golfing at Lady’s Night at Cedar Green Golf Club and forged long lasting friendships while playing golf.
Glenda was a pillar of strength to us, always there to listen, provide guidance and lead us along in her down to earth pragmatic loving way. She battled Alzheimer’s in the twilight of her life and even then, her giving nature and loving character existed to the end.
Glenda/Nanny/Mom/Ma we will always love you and you will be missed.
The family would like to thank the dedicated/hardworking staff on the Third Floor at Extendicare Falconbridge in Sudbury.
A Celebration of Glenda’s Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Calvin Presbyterian Church, (1114 Auger Ave., Sudbury, ON P3A 4B2, 705-566-0179) or the Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts, if paying with Visa or Mastercard 705-560-0603 or 1-800-407-6369.

It is definitely with a heavy heart that we say goodbye without actually being able to hug you one last time. You have been part of my life since I was 2 years old and always there for me when I didn’t think my parents understood me. You were like another mother to me for a long time. I will cherish many memories for years to come – including you fitting me for my first bra at Sears (I think I’m still wearing the same size lol) and you listening to Prince on the deck while all us kids ran around the yard 😁. I love you Glenda! Til we meet again! RIP ❤️ Kathy
