Green, Ruth (Née Williamson)

Ruth Green, the beloved heart of our family, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, at the age of 88.

Born on June 27, 1938 in Falconbridge, Ontario, Ruth was the eldest daughter of Harry and Christina Williamson. She grew up in a vibrant, close-knit and loving home alongside her sisters, Dorothy and Judy, and her brother, Robert, forming deep family bonds and memories that lasted a lifetime. She enjoyed a very happy childhood and often recalled her fun-filled summers at Falcona Camp both as a camper and later a counsellor.  Ruth attended Falconbridge Public School, then enrolled in the commercial program at Sheridan Technical School in Sudbury.  Upon graduation, she worked at the Sudbury Telegraph Office.

Ruth took up the piano at a very early age and became a proficient pianist.  Music was a thread that wove through her entire life.  She absolutely loved singing and playing the piano, and delighted friends and family with her cheerful tunes right until the very end.

Ruth was the loving and devoted wife of her sweetheart, Ron, with whom she shared a beautiful and inspiring 70 years.  Together, they built a life centered on love, loyalty, and family.

She was a deeply devoted mother to Terry (Joanna), Carolyn (Billy), and Sandra (Paul).

Once her children were in school, Ruth returned to the workforce and was a valued, dedicated and beloved employee at Falconbridge Nickel Mines for  more than 25 years.  Following retirement, Ruth and Ron traded the northern cold for sunny winters in Texas. They loved their time down south, making countless lasting friendships along the way. Ruth jumped into community life at home and in Texas with immense energy, leading lively aquafit classes and participating in many other activities.  Whether in Ontario or Texas, Ruth was famous for her baking.  Her legendary butter tarts remain unrivalled.

She adored her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose cherished memories of Grandma Ruth include holidays at the family camp on Lake Kagawong, where she spent endless hours entertaining them with bike rides, swimming, berry picking, crayfish racing on the boat launch, playing games and spoiling them with their favourite foods and desserts.  She was always up for any adventure and made sure that the youngest members of the family were always having fun.  No child was ever bored when Ruth was around!

Ruth was also a prolific knitter, with her specialty being colourful knitted slippers. Every member of the family (and so many lucky others) boast a precious stockpile of her signature slippers ensuring their feet will be warm for many winters to come.

Ruth's greatest joy was her family.  She poured her heart into nurturing her children and grandchildren and creating a warm, welcoming home.  Her joyful music, cheerful disposition, positive attitude, unwavering kindness, and devotion to those she loved will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family is forever grateful to Carolyn, whose selfless devotion and care for Mom throughout her illness far surpassed what could ever have been asked for or expected.  She has been a pillar of strength, remaining by Mom's side until the very end.

Sincere thanks are extended to the staff at Countryside Manor, Sudbury, for the compassionate care they provided to Ruth during her 2 year stay.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory may be made directly to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada https://alzheimer.ca/sudburymanitoulin/en.
