Gowan, Richard Alpin (81 years)

In Loving Memory of Richard Alpin Gowan who passed away at Maison McCulloch Hospice Saturday, November 12th, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. 

Beloved friend of Corinne MacNeil, Azilda. Loving father of Danny predeceased November 20, 2019, Linda Girard (husband Luc) and Sandra Gowan. Grandpa to Cassaundra Girard (Ryan), Jasmine Girard (Jon), Dominique Girard and Chad Wickett. Great grandpa to Ashton, Journey, Tatum, Sophie and Isaac. Brother of Don (Edith) both predeceased, Murdock (Nenita), Bob (Viviane) and Debbie (Dan). Dear Uncle of Alan, Don Jr., Cindy, Shawn, Jennifer, Matthew, Vanessa, Allison, Angela, Trevor, Tisha, Robert and Eric. Great uncle to over a dozen great nieces and nephews. Dear son of the late George and Violet (DiCarlantonio) Gowan both predeceased. 

Richard was born and raised in Chelmsford, Ontario. Owned and operated Chelmsford Cleaners, Triple G Contracting and worked many years for Vaillancourt Motors as a well-respected parts person. He sponsored the annual hockey squirt tournament and was very involved in the community through hockey and other activities. He was a people’s person who loved to socialize and entertain. He made friends with people from everywhere as he enjoyed travelling, being at camp in Biscotasing for the summer and in Florida for the winters. He always looked forward to family and friend gatherings and the memories of those gatherings were dear to his heart. He had a compassion for animals and flying his own plane. He enjoyed working with his hands and took pride in the things he built. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hockey, baseball and especially telling stories. He loved life and always dreamed BIG.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the AMAZING staff at Maison McCulloch Hospice, Sudbury for their exceptional, unrelenting, compassionate care, for making him feel safe and at peace in his time of need. We couldn’t have done it without you all. To everyone who cared for him over the years at Health Sciences North and to Dr. MacKay for his fantastic care over the years, a very special Thank You!

As per Richard’s request there will be no visitation and no funeral service. Richard shared his father’s views "Celebrate my life, don't cry over my death"
