Golder, Audrey

It is with much love and great sorrow that Jen and Bruce announce the peaceful passing of their beloved mom and friend Audrey Golder on October 15, 2025 at the age of 95 years.

Audrey Phyllis Golder (nee Lawrence) was born in January 1930 to James and Mildred Lawrence in New Brunswick. She was the middle child of 13 children. Beloved sister of Neil and the late Pauline, Beulah, Rowena, Muriel, Melvin, Wilmot, Ivan, Vaughn, Gerald, and infant brothers Merle and Dell.

In 1951 she married the love of her life, Oral Winfield Golder (predeceased 1999). Together they lovingly raised three children, Laurie, Jennifer, and Ruth. Audrey will be greatly missed by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members, friends, and neighbours. She dearly loved each and every one of you.

Audrey had a strong, quiet faith in God and lived her life accordingly. She was an active member of the Glad Tidings Church beginning in 1951 when the first church was built on Alder Street. Many of the brides-to-be and expectant mothers from that church were the grateful recipients of beautiful quilts Audrey and her friends made for wedding and baby shower gifts.

Audrey celebrated the many blessings in her life every single day. The simplest pleasures brought her great happiness - time spent with family and friends, cooking and sharing great meals, a rousing game of cards and especially a baby to hold. She loved babies.

She weathered her few disappointments in life with grace and dignity because she steadfastly believed that it is far better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. That little light of hers - she certainly let it shine! One of her favourite nieces once said “When I mention Aunt Audrey's name to people who know her, they immediately smile.” Sweet and sassy, funny and kind, Audrey was a delightful woman who lived a life full of faith, love, and gratitude. Our world is dimmer now that she is gone.

In accordance with Audrey's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. There will be a private family service at a later date when Audrey's ashes will be interred beside her beloved husband in the Waters Cemetery.

Rather than flowers or donations in Audrey's memory, we think it would honour her greatly if you did one (or all) of the following: be kind always, count your blessings, and live your life in such a way that people smile at the mere mention of your name. Rest in peace and rise in glory, Mom. We love you always and forever.
