Gagnon, Dora (Dini)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dora Gagnon (Dini) on Saturday, January 4, 2025. Beloved spouse of 53 years of the late Michel Gagnon, loving mother of Caroline Bélanger (Michel) and Pierre Gagnon (Judy Paulauskas). Cherished grandmother of Stéphane (Erin), Mélanie (Matty) and Matthieu and great-grandmother of Benoît, Amélie and Philippe. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Alice (Racicot) Dini. Dear sister of Rose-Marie Peloso (Arigo) and aunt to Marc Brunette and Mario Peloso. Dear sister-in-law of François (Anni) Gagnon and aunt of Jennifer and Jeannette Gagnon.

Dora was a very delightful, caring lady, who greeted everybody with a warm smile. One couldn’t help but feel at peace when in her presence. Teaching was her passion and she began every day with enthusiasm. Indeed, she loved children and sang to them daily. Dora was also very much devoted to God and a proud parishioner of St-Jean-de-Brébeuf Church. As such, she participated during mass as a lector, a children’s liturgy teacher and a Minister of Communion. She also prepared and delivered food baskets during Christmas for the less fortunate.

Her grandchildren will forever remember her for being funny and witty. She was always willing to go along with whatever her grandchildren asked of her if she knew it would make them laugh. She was also very proud of her children and cherished every moment with them. A generous soul, she was always willing to pay for family meals and outings.

Special thanks to the staff of Extendicare York for the quality care provided to Dora. Indeed, they were truly Angels and ensured that her needs were taken care of. During the last year, as her disease worsened, they met every challenge with a solution and Dora was able to retain her dignity and smile right to the end.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St-Jean-de-Brébeuf Church, 26 Kathleen Street, Sudbury on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 10:00 a.m. prior to the ceremony in order to share fond memories.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society.
