Fong, Barry

In loving memory of Barry Fong, who passed away at the age of 80 on July 16, 2023.  Barry was born on July 26, 1942 to Yuen Shung Fong and Katherine (née Pattison), both predeceased.  He met the love of his life, Denise (née Delorme) in 1968.  They married in 1972 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2022.

Barry had an incredible outlook on life, despite the many challenges he faced.  He was an avid sports fan and there wasn't a sport he didn't enjoy watching or discussing. He had the voice of a songbird and shared his love of music with his friends and family.  He was an excellent cook and loved cooking for his family, especially authentic Chinese food.  He had the uncanny ability to bring joy to everyone he met, and he always left a lasting impression.  Barry had an infectious smile and could light up any room.  His sense of humour and wit were magnetic and drew everyone in; making everyone feel as if they were special.  He loved old movies and shared this passion with Denise and his daughter, Jennifer.

Barry is survived by his wife Denise, his daughter Jenn Carlson (Steve), his stepdaughter Susanne Labre (Richard) and his stepson Larry Labre.  He is predeceased by his stepson Gerry Labre (Donna).  He is also survived by his grandchildren Camden, Lisa, Brent, David, Janie and Joshua.  He is also survived by his only great grandchild, Loën.  Barry was a loving brother to Sue Needham (Bill) - both predeceased, Clyde Fong (Helen - predeceased), Al Fong - predeceased (Raymonde), Sheila Palmer (Sydney), Ian Fong (Stephanie), Arthur Fong (Rose), Stuart Fong (Debby), Holly Walton (John - predeceased), Heather Gordon (Ray), Victoria Cadieux (Harvey) - both predeceased and Florence Brown (predeceased).  He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, his in-laws, and his friends.

For the last few years, Barry was a resident of St. Joseph's Villa.  He considered the staff and residents to be family.  Barry's family cannot extend enough gratitude to St. Joseph's for making him feel as if he was at home with family.

A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.

  2. Denise & Family,
So sorry for your loss, thinking of you and your family. In thinking of Barry, I have fond memories of him from our years at LOEB. A number of us would do the “It Pays to Increase your Word Power” quiz from RD, he almost always won! I laugh every time I think of his portrayal of a member of the Royal Family. He did it because he knew I loved the Queen. What a guy.
