Dempsey, Michael

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Dempsey, affectionately known as "Shedman," who departed from this world at his home in North Bay, Ontario, on September 29, 2023.

Michael was a man of many talents, with a particular passion for woodworking and handyman skills.  He was largely self-taught and constantly curious, always striving to learn and create with his hands.  His craftsmanship was a testament to his dedication and creativity.

Born on March 14, 1958, Michael was the beloved son of Jack Dempsey and Margaret "Peggy" Kennard.

Michael's life was characterized by love, resilience, and a steadfast dedication to family and friends. He was preceded in death by the cherished love of his life, Cathy Young, who departed in 1997. They can now finally be reunited in the afterlife.

Michael is survived by his loving siblings Joy, Jim (Bonnie), Jerry (Linda), Joel (Jeanine), Jon, Wayne (Nancy), Terry, and Gary (Sandra). His love and bond with each of them left an indelible mark on his life.  He will be reunited with his late brother Jack (Brenda) and sister Jill (Tom).  Michael’s warmth and love extended to many nieces and nephews within the network of close-knit family bonds that will endure in his absence.

Michael was a loving father to his girls Jody, Jessica, and Ashleigh he shared with his former wife Melinda. His nurturing spirit extended beyond blood and biological family, as he also adored Cheyanne as a daughter. Grandpa Mike (lovingly called Microwave) was cherished by his beloved grandchildren: Imagyn, Callah, Jordan, Davin and Nova. Michael's love, wisdom, and guidance left an enduring legacy in their lives.

Throughout his journey, Michael forged deep and lasting friendships with many, who now mourn his loss.  Most notably his very dear friends Scott and Reno.

His jovial spirit and enduring smile brought joy to all who were fortunate enough to know him. In our grief, we remember Michael Dempsey as a man who held family close to his heart and extended his love to those who entered his life. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know and love him. Rest in peace, Shedman. You will be deeply missed, and your legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire us all. Family will be planning a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers if desired donations can be made directly to a local food bank.
