Della Vedova, Theresa (nee Egan)

It is with profound sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Theresa Della Vedova (nee Egan) on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in her 94th year of life.

Beloved spouse of Gus Della Vedova (predeceased), with whom she spent 67 years married. Loving mother of Jeffrey and Rodney (Sandy), David (predeceased)(Diana), and Anne Marie.

Beloved grandmother to TJ McDonald (Rhoda), Andrew Della Vedova (Melissa), Lauren Della Vedova and Santana Della Vedova. Great grandmother to Aiden and Aubrey McDonald, and Ruby, Pacey, and Russell Della Vedova.

Theresa was born to Leonard and Kathleen Egan, and had 2 siblings, Joseph Egan (Priscilla) and Kathleen Tessier (Gilbert), all of whom are predeceased. Theresa is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Theresa moved from Orillia to Garson at a young age, where she was voted as Miss Garson in her late teenage years. She went onto spending her life as the devoted matriarch of a large family. Theresa spent time selling vehicle license plates for the Ministry of Ontario. She also enjoyed cooking, regular shopping excursions with her sister Kathy, spending quality time at the family camp on lake Nepewassi, watching a good old hockey game on TV, and always having a good laugh at the Maple Leafs losing. She was a 63 year member of the Catholic Womens League (CWL) at St. Johns church in Garson.

As her health started to decline in the later years, she was taken care of full time by her beloved daughter Anne Marie, whose 24 hour care at home gave her a few extra years of enjoyable life, and frequent visits by her great grand-children Aiden and Aubrey turned into the highlights of her days.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Abdul-Hussein and his secretary Sue Richard for their excellent and compassionate care, spending over 40 years as Theresa’s  family physician team. The Nickel Centre Pharmasave for their lifelong dedication to granny’s needs. Her Bayshore homecare nurse Katie, and NP Karen Aniol for the home visits over her last few years. And to Father Sam D’Angelo, who provided her final home blessings which brought her incredible joy.

The family would also like to personally thank her friends Barbara Moore and Carmen Joly for their daily telephone calls, which granny anticipated and quite enjoyed. To Lilian Joly-Bede, The Boettger family, Marie Bardswich, and Brenda Morrow for their kindness and friendship. There are far too many that were special to Theresa, and we would like to thank you all.

Finally we would like to extend a heartfelt and special thank you to our extended family in the emergency department at Health Sciences North, where granny had several visits over the years. She was always treated with the highest level of care and compassion possible, right up to her last breath.

A funeral mass will be held at the Holy Redeemer Church, at 11:00am on Friday, October 27th,2023.
