Chezzi, Gary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Chezzi, 73, suddenly on Thursday, July 7th, 2022.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, and beloved brother, Gary will be missed by his wife Linda; his son Micheal, daughter-in-law Crystal and their sons Preston and Xavier; his oldest son Derek, daughter-in-law Angela and their children Alexander and Olivia; his sisters Lynn and Audrey and their families; and sister-in-law Verna Fuller, her husband Gus and their families.

Gary was well-known in the community for his hardware businesses and involvement in real estate, as well as within the dog breeding community in the Sudbury area and Ontario.

Throughout the years, Gary owned and managed several hardware stores under different banners in the Greater Sudbury Area. Starting in Capreol on August 1st, 1977, he then moved on to a store in Coniston, followed by Hanmer, Val Caron and Sudbury. His network reached further during his tenure as a hardware sales manager covering the Northeastern Ontario territory. He kept long hours at his stores, offering warm greetings to his customers and ready to help them solve their home repair and renovation needs.

Gary’s love of German Shepherd dogs led to his becoming a breeder and opening Nickel Basin German Shepherds in 1981. He and Linda spent many years travelling to shows across Ontario with their prize-winning dogs, and raising and placing puppies in loving homes. Gary’s involvement with the Sudbury District Kennel Club eventually led him to volunteer on the executive in his retirement years. Gary also donated his time and dogs to the local pet therapy program visiting clients of the CNIB, patients at the Children’s Treatment Centre, and residents of retirement homes.

Gary was most happy spending time working outdoors on his property, working with his dogs, and in the company of his grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the Greater Sudbury Police Service Chief’s Youth Initiative Fund by emailing finance@gsps.ca.
