Beatty, Patricia (nee Rupar)

It is with great sadness the family of Patricia Beatty announces her passing surrounded by loved ones on July 12th, 2021, at the age of 72 years. Born in Sarnia, Ontario, on December 30, 1948, Pat moved to Sudbury in 1971 to begin her teaching career at Confederation Secondary School, where she remained until her retirement in 2004.  Upon arriving to Sudbury, she met the love of her life, Ian Beatty (predeceased 2011). They married and resided in Hanmer and Sudbury for the remainder of her years. Beloved mother of Steven (Kailey), Clare (Jimmy) and Charles (Louise). Forever loved and remembered by her grandchildren, McLaren, Tejada, Marguerite, Augustin, Declan, Tessa and Maisie. Daughter of the late Charles and Edith Rupar. Dear sister of David Rupar, Tony Rupar (Rita) and Joan Grant (Ian). Lovingly remembered by her nephews and nieces. In her 72 years Pat always had a great sense of humour and would regale others with funny stories. Pat maintained an active lifestyle throughout her life with downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, walking and most recently curling. Pat was an incredible mother who provided a rich, fun-filled life and continued to support her children in their adult lives in every adventure or endeavour. She took pride in her family and extended family and was the glue that held everyone together. Her home was the gathering place for family members and friends and many fond memories will be remembered by many. Most of all, Pat was a dedicated wife, loving mother, and a cherished grandmother. She touched the lives of everyone she met and will be greatly missed by family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations made directly to Health Sciences North Foundation and specify ICU and Step-Down Unit https://www.hsnfoundation.com/Donate would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Friends and Family,
We were saddened to hear of Pat’s passing. We had so many wonderful times with Pat and the family at the Camp, and later the house, at the Long Lake. Fantastic family gatherings that to this day warm my heart and I savour the many fond memories. I remember in the 70s my cool uncle Ian and my cool aunt Pat, who travelled, and scuba dived, and I just wanted to be like them! We will miss you.

  2. Clare, Steve, Charles and family,
I was shocked and saddened to learn of your mother’s passing.
Pat was an excellent and dedicated teacher – highly respected by students, parents, staff and community.
Students were priviledged to have Pat as a teacher, mentor and advisor.
She was really proud to be a Confederation “Charger”.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  5. Dear Steven, Clare and Charles
I was saddened to hear of your mum’s passing. I remember her as patient, kind, funny and glamorously adventurous (scuba diving and sailing were not the most common sports in 1970s Sudbury!). The annual picnic of Confed Staff ‘Originals’ at your family’s place on the lake was always something I looked forward to. In retrospect, I realise how much it said about your mom’s sense of community. All these years later, I am grateful for the lessons in that. Sending all of you much aroha from NZ.

  11. When I think of Pat, I remember the most intense Scrabble game of my life (although she was so kind, this game scared me a bit)! I also remember her fantastic story telling, including her speech at Louise and Charles’ wedding, and a hilarious story she told with Steven about how much they hated Canadian Tire and how she asked an employee if it was her turn for a kiss after he was kissing his girlfriend instead of helping them! She had us all in stitches!
Thinking of you Clare, Steven, Charles and your families and I’m so sorry for your suffering.

  12. I am so saddened to hear of Pats passing. I met her at Curl Sudbury and then shared a cabin with her on a cruise. We got along so well. She was a wonderful cabinmate. She was quiet and soft spoken but showed her endearing sense of humour when she had a story to tell. I will miss her. Rest in peace Pat.

  13. To Steven, Clare and Charles My condolences on the passing of your mom, Pat. Although it has been many years since I have see Pat and Ian, they were very fine people and fabulous teachers, well- loved by all of their students and staff alike! I started at Confed in 1970 and your mom came on staff a year after and immediately became a popular addition to a young, dedicated group of teachers lead by your dad. Soon after her arrival, love blossomed and we celebrated the union of two very fine people. Prayers go out to Pat. Hers was a life well-lived. May she rest in peace.
