In Loving Memory of Cecil Claude “Biggy” Atkinson
November 23, 1943 – August 9, 2026
A larger-than-life man with a heart of gold.
It is with profound sadness and immense love that we announce the passing of Cecil Claude Atkinson, affectionately known to all as “Biggy,” on August 9, 2026.
Born on November 23, 1943, in Three Mile Plains, Nova Scotia, Biggy was the beloved son of Edith Atkinson and the twin brother of Claudia Moss. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he attended Joseph Howe School.
At just 15 years old, Biggy began a new chapter of his life in Toronto, Ontario. He worked for many years at the Ontario Food Terminal, building a life filled with hard work, friendship, laughter, and memories.
On January 27, 1968, Biggy married his beloved wife, Victoria. Together, they shared 58½ years of marriage, building a beautiful family and a lifetime of memories. In 1987, they made their home in Sudbury, where Biggy continued his career as a Maintenance Manager for Brookview Gardens and Apollo Terrace (Lasalle Park Manor). He remained dedicated to his work until retiring at the age of 70.
But Biggy’s greatest legacy was never found in a job title—it was found in the people he loved.
He was truly larger than life, a gentle giant whose heart was even bigger than his presence. He had a rare gift for making people laugh, making people feel welcome, and making memories wherever he went. His kindness, generosity, loyalty, and unforgettable sense of humor touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Biggy enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life special: a cold Pepsi, a good game of cards surrounded by family and friends, family BBQ's and reunions, road trips to Nova Scotia, and his much-loved yearly trips to Martin’s cottage.
And, of course, there were Biggy’s famous words—phrases that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him:
“Take it slow.”
“Watch out for the speed bumps.”
“Looking good.”
“Pound for pound, the best card player around.”
“I am as good as the best and better than the rest.”
“I raise, I raise, I raise… I fold!”
These words, like Biggy himself, will never be forgotten.
Forever Loved
Biggy leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 1⁄2 years, Victoria, and his daughters Michelle, Tracey, and Jules, who will forever carry his love and memory in their hearts.
He will be deeply missed by his grandsons Sean, Mark, Dejuan, Jason, and Michael, and his great-grandchildren Nevaeh and Asher.
He was predeceased by his grandsons Ian and Noel, and we find comfort in knowing that Biggy is now reunited with them.
Biggy was one of fourteen siblings. He leaves behind his brother Martin Atkinson and sister Shay Dixon.
He was predeceased by his brothers Sunny, Joe, Glen, and Ronny, and his sisters Evaline, Ethel, Babe, Gladis, Edna, Flo, and Claudia.
His Memory Will Live On
Biggy’s life was measured not by the years he lived, but by the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the lives he touched.
He leaves behind stories that will be told for generations, laughter that will echo through family gatherings, and a love that will never fade.
Though our hearts are heavy, we will remember the good times, the card games, the Pepsi, the laughter, the cottage trips, and that unmistakable smile.
Rest peacefully, Biggy.
Take it slow.
Watch out for the speed bumps.
You’re looking good.
And as you take your final journey, may you fly high with your Gold Wing.
Pound for pound, you truly were the best around.
Forever our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and gentle giant.
