Abresch, Erhard

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Erhard Abresch on Monday, October 9, 2023 at the age of 89. He passed peacefully after spending the day with all of his loved ones at his side. He was blessed to live a full and independent life with his love of 68 years, Ursula.

We were all so lucky to have such a caring father, grandfather and great grandfather in our lives. He had a profound presence in all of our lives and his phone calls will be sorely missed by all. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Mike (Debbie), Rita (Ilija) and Paul (Tammy). Opa was a devoted grandfather who never missed his grandchildren’s special events. He will be sadly missed by all his grandchildren, Silka, Everett (Russell), Dexton, Julia, Krista (Andrew), Anthony (Morgan), Ryan (Julie) and Sheena (Josh). He was blessed to have the opportunity to watch his beloved family grow with the addition of 11 great grandchildren Brooke, Jaaks, Blake, Ben, Axel, Ace, Maja, Jasper, Charlie, Will and Taylor.

Erhard worked at Falconbridge for 36 years after emigrating from Germany at 20 years of age. He enjoyed a long retirement and loved his days spent out at his camp. We will all cherish the memories we made with him on Nepewassi Lake. He was an avid soccer fan and loved watching his favourite team Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and cheering for Germany in international play. Opa had his sense of humour right up to the end. There is no more need for ‘room for improvement’ Opa, you are at peace now.

  6. Our deepest condolences to all the family. I was lucky to have been able to work closely with Erhard during my early years at Falconbridge. He trained me to work in the control room and his insight and work ethic brought us through many memorable times. I thought of him as a friend and a truly good man.
