Gilbeau, Richard “Ricky”

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Richard “Ricky” Gilbeau on May 26, 2026, at the age of 64 years.

Richard will be deeply missed by his loving partner, Colette Lalande, his sons Alex and André (Valéry), and his cherished grandchildren Elly-Anne and Logan. He also leaves behind his siblings: Anne (Daniel Picard), Claire (Rob Pollesel), Marc (Nicole Garceau), and Ron (Julie Gilbeau), nieces and nephews, along with Colette’s family, extended family members, and many dear friends.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Ronald and Lauraine Gilbeau, his sister Suzanne, and his brother Marcel. He will be laid to rest beside his mother, father, and brother. His family takes comfort in knowing he is now reunited with loved ones gone before him.

Richard shared a deep and loving bond with Colette. While together, they built a quiet life grounded in care, companionship, and mutual devotion. He was a legendary early riser and early to bed, and many family members could count on his regular check-ins as part of their morning routine.  Beneath his sometimes-gruff exterior was a heart of gold, and those closest to him knew him as someone deeply caring in his own understated way.

An outdoorsman at heart, Richard found great peace in hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. He especially loved feeding birds and felt most at home outdoors. His closeness to nature fostered a deep respect for First Nations traditions, wisdom, and teachings, many of which influenced the way he lived his daily life. He was also a talented craftsman who enjoyed working with natural materials such as wood, soapstone, bone, and antlers, creating carvings and pieces that reflected his patience, creativity, and quiet spirit. He developed his skill for rope weaving and net making. He took great pride not only in his artwork, but also in sharing it with family.

He will be remembered for the relationships he treasured and the quiet but lasting impact he had on those who knew him.

In keeping with Ricky’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
