McCourt, Richard

Patrick lived life to the fullest and was well known for his incredible sense of humour. He always said ‘90 and out’…but he was having too much fun and stayed until the age 96, hanging up his skates for good on Friday, May 22nd,2026 in the loving presence of his sister Marina and his niece Karen.

Always looking for a laugh and a good time, his true passions were family, big game hunting, his Irish heritage and of course, the Montreal Canadians. After playing junior hockey in Ontario, he took his talents south of the border where he took a contract with the US Army, stationed in Vietnam during the war as an electrician. He continued to travel with his love of hunting taking him everywhere from Alaska to Africa, establishing his reputation as a very talented big game hunter. When he wasn’t dancing to Irish music, or watching the Canadiens, he was on the road, never forgetting to send souvenirs, t-shirts and pictures to his McCourt family back in Northern Ontario. He was often found in his Irish attire, kilt included, and/or a hockey jersey. Despite requesting to take all the ladies out dancing or skating, it was his wife Kathy who won his heart- she was even willing to join him in his little trailer during hunting season. Family was his first priority, he was fiercely proud to be a McCourt and wore many personalized T-shirt’s and hats to advertise it. He spent his later years in Florida and was a member of the Knights of Columbus within his parish.

He leaves behind his cherished younger sister Marina Lamoureux (Maurice- predeceased), and caring niece Karen McCourt (Tom- predeceased). Patrick had a particularly close bond with his nephew Tom, with whom he developed a close and loving relationship which meant a great deal to him. Patrick will also be remembered by Cindy Fauvelle (Neil) and her son Derick. He was a loving and generous son, brother, uncle, and surrogate grandfather to many great (great) nieces and nephews. He will be fondly missed by them all.

He is predeceased by his wife Katharine (McAbee) and his immediate family: mother Nellie (Cull) and father Charles McCourt, brothers Red (Ruth), Arnold (Cecile), Frank (Lillian), Michael (June) and sister Aurelia (Jimmy). The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Cranberry staff at Pioneer Manor, particularly Sylvia, Colleen, Angie, and Kristy who helped make his final moments peaceful.  Internment will be held at St. John’s Cemetery in Garson, Saturday, June 6th, 2026 at 2pm.
