It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Scott Watson on October 3rd, 2025, at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, at the age of 25.
Scott leaves behind a loving and devoted family, including his identical twin brother and best friend in the world, Ian; his parents, Kyle and Paula; his grandparents; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Words cannot fully express the depth of loss felt by all.
Scott’s life was filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments. He especially loved going to camp, taking boat rides, swimming, playing and listening to music—particularly Drake and Johnny Cash—spending time with family and friends, bird watching, and watching Blue’s Clues. He had a special fondness for his “Cookie Monster,” which brought him endless laughs and smiles.
Throughout his life, Scott faced many challenges, but he met each one with remarkable courage, strength, and resilience. No matter the difficulty, he persevered with unwavering determination and always with a smile.
Scott attended École Jean-Paul II in Val Caron, where he proudly graduated from the Deafblind Program in 2019. He found immense joy in going to school, forming friendships, and especially cherished the support of his devoted teachers and intervenors. Over the years, many in-home caregivers became like family, always having love and compassion for Scott. Today, all those who knew and cared for him—his teachers, intervenors, and caregivers—are left heartbroken.
In 2020, Scott and Ian moved into a Deafblind Ontario Services home in Hanmer, where Scott began a new chapter of independence. He thrived in his new environment, embraced his own space, and quickly formed deep bonds with his new intervenor family. The transition was harder on his parents than on Scott, who was overjoyed and content to begin his adult life surrounded by care, love, and support.
When we say, “It takes a village,” we acknowledge that raising and nurturing a child is a shared journey—one that involves the love, guidance, and support of an entire community. This sentiment could not be truer in Scott’s life. He touched the hearts of everyone around him, and each person played a role in helping him live his best life.
The Watson family extends their deepest gratitude to every one of Scott’s intervenors, teachers, caregivers, nurses, doctors, nurse practitioners, PSWs, and the dedicated staff at DeafBlind Ontario Services, NEO Kids, the Children’s Treatment Centre, Health Sciences North, SickKids Hospital, and Holland Bloorview. Your compassion and commitment to his needs made a difference in Scott’s life. A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at Ste Marguerite d’Youville Church in Val Thérèse on Friday, October 10th, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to DeafBlind Ontario Services North Region would be greatly appreciated.
