July 22, 1944 – July 5, 2025
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Betty Ann Sullivan nee Heinl. Known by many as their favorite Avon Lady, “Ding Dong Avon Calling”, who passed away peacefully July 5th at Health Sciences North. Daughter of George Heinl and Selma Heinl (nee Priewe), both previously deceased. Only sister of Roland “Roly” Heinl of British Columbia, whom she was extremely proud of and who will greatly miss their daily phone chats.
Beloved wife of the late Lawrence Sullivan (predeceased 2016) and a forever giving and loving mother of Patrick Sullivan and the late Douglas Sullivan (Dana). Cherished grandmother of Emily, Justine (Patrick), Solann (Walid), Hanna, Dunovan and a great grandmother of 3.
Betty was well known as the Avon lady throughout the Greater City of Sudbury for the past 38 years. She retired from her 20-year career at the Canada Revenue Agency in 2000. Betty had many great qualities, one which was her ability to make new friends and those who knew her, knew she loved to talk and socialize. Betty had a heart of gold and was always there to help those she cared about. Her sense of humour never faltered, and she leaves one of her favorite riddles to share here: “What happens to a red rock when you drop it into the Black Sea?” There is so much more to say about Betty, as those of you who knew her, know exactly what I mean. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by so many friends, too many to name.
Special thank you to Dr. P. Brown for your compassion and thoughtfulness, it meant a great deal, as well as Dr. Boissonnault, Dr. Atoui, Dr. Liauw, and Dr. Puranam for giving us hope and doing everything possible for Betty. Thank you to the care team who looked after Betty, and a special thanks to her EOL nurse Sheryl who took such great care of her. A great big hug and thank you to Huguette Burns for just being there with me (Darlene).
As per Betty’s wishes there will be no funeral and cremation has taken place.
Answer to riddle: “it sinks”
To her loved ones and friends, may those who cared for Betty find solace and comfort in these words:
Remember Me
Don’t remember me with sadness,
Don’t remember me with tears,
Remember all good times,
Shared throughout the years.
Now I am contented
That my life it was worthwhile,
Because I know by loving you
That I made you smile.
When you are walking down the street
And you’ve got me on your mind,
I’m walking in your footsteps
Only half a step behind.
So please don’t be unhappy
Just because I’m out of sight,
Remember that I’m with you
Every morning, noon and night
A great sister that was always the boss, only because I let her just to keep the peace. So caring for our Dad in so many ways especially at the cottage. Mother would have been lost without her monthly visits to Toronto from Sudbury just to make sure she was well and supplied with all her needs. I hope she doesn’t ask the gate keeper up there about the rock She will be missed by many.

My thoughts, sympathies, and prayers go to all of Betty’s family and friends at this difficult sad time. Betty was a dear friend and neighbour for many years and I will greatly miss our chats and reminiscences. My dog shares my sympathy as he loved his “Aunt Betty” and if he was missing, I knew I could find him at Betty’s place enjoying many treats she was always so happy to share with him and all her 4-legged friends! Betty will be greatly missed!
