Wilson, Catharine Ica (nee McDermid) June 03, 1957 – August 22, 2020

Kate passed away peacefully in her sleep from complications due to breast cancer at Health Sciences North, on Saturday, August 22, 2020, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband, John Wilson, and her children Jessica Wilson, Dianna Wilson, and Finlay Wilson. She is also survived by her mother, Blanche McDermid, and siblings, Karen Maguire (Russ Tate), Fran Cox, Linda Williamson (Barry Williamson), Ed McDermid (Sheila McDermid), and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her father Duncan McDermid, her brother Ernie McDermid, sister in law Michelle McDermid, and brother in law Bernie Maguire. Kate, or Kathy, as many called her, worked at D.A. Williamson and Sons’ Hardware and Up Top Sports Shop for most of her life. She will be sadly missed by her fellow employees for her comradery and kind nature, especially co-owner Barry, who described her as his ‘rock’. She will be missed by many dear friends, especially lifelong friends, Victoria Martini-Mora, Ruth Farquhar, and Patti Beaudry. Kate had a big heart and will be grieved by all who ever got to know her. She was Facebook famous for her photography of birds, nature, clouds, and her beloved gardens and family. The loss of Kate was sudden and will be a shock to many, as her diagnosis came far too late. It was her wish for others to get checked out by a doctor at the first sign of trouble. Plans for a service, in the near future, to be finalized and disclosed at a later date. In memory of Kate, donations can be made to the Northeast Cancer Center at Health Sciences North or the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.
