Williams, Stephen Harold – May 8, 2024 (49)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Stephen on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Pioneer Manor in Sudbury. Stephen closed his eyes in this world to be present with his Saviour who he so greatly loved and served.

Stephen was born in Shelburne, Nova Scotia to Hubert and Marjorie Williams and grew up in East Green Harbour, Nova Scotia. After he graduated from Lockeport Regional High School he worked at Atlantic Lobster and Clearwater while completing his Diploma in Ministerial Studies from Master’s College and Seminary. Later he went on to get his Bachelor of Theology from Vanguard College and his Master of Theological Studies from Tyndale University. He was a pastor for the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada serving in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia; Sussex, New Brunswick; Windsor, Nova Scotia; Vegreville, Alberta; and Sudbury, Ontario. He found comfort and solace at New Life Christian Centre where he was able to continue using his gifts. Stephen had a love for learning and teaching, was a gifted speaker, and a talented musician stemming from his childhood playing bluegrass music festivals with his father and brother. He was also an avid Montreal Canadiens fan and could be found coaching the team from the living room on every game night.

Stephen’s ministry was cut short by his ALS diagnosis in September of 2020. He fought courageously until the very end but still enjoyed the time he had with his family. In his final days he found peace and was surrounded by family and friends.

He is survived by his father Hubert, Lockeport, Nova Scotia, wife Christianne of Sudbury, children Logan of Sudbury, Ethan (Amelia) of Edmonton, Aedan and Elizabeth of Sudbury. Also his brothers Troy (Kim) of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, and Shawn (Becky) of Lockeport, Nova Scotia, and his nieces and nephew in Alberta.

He is predeceased by his mother Marjorie, his sister Stephanie, and his nephew Travis.

His Celebration of Life will be held at New Life Christian Centre (4032 Regional Rd 35, Chelmsford) at 11AM on Saturday, May 11th 2024. Donations may be made to the ALS Society of Canada or New Life Christian Centre.

Our greatest gratitude goes out to Pastor Sue and New Life Christian Centre, as well as the Pioneer Manor staff with a special thanks to Kyle, Jessica, and Laura who lovingly and compassionately went above and beyond in their care for him and whom Stephen saw as family.

  9. Christianne and family ; so deeply saddened to hear of Pastor Steve’s passing. I remember your time here in Sussex at Evangel Assembly so well – he was so vibrant in his teachings and in his music – very gifted in both areas. He loved the Lord and his family so much and to be stricken with a terrible disability at such a young age is so sad. I pray God will wrap his arms around each of you and bring the peace that passes all understanding. Share his memories often with family and friends to keep them alive. Will be praying for you all in the upcoming days as you walk through this time of sorrow. 1 Corinthians 5:8 ” absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord ”

  10. Deep sadness filled my heart when I heard that Stephen had lost his battle with ALS. He fought bravely but submitted his will to the will of his Heavenly Father. God’s ways are not our ways. We may not understand, but we know, “God doeth all things well”. Today, Stephen is with Jesus, the One he loved and served.
Christianne, Logan, Ethan, Aedan, Elizabeth Anne, Hubie and Margaret Rose, know that I am praying for you and sharing in your sorrow.
May the Lord be your source of comfort and strength. May you have a sense of His Presence now and in the days to come.
May the Lord bless you and may you rest in His tender care.
    Much love,
    Aunt Amy
