Van Dyk, Henricus Willlelmus Cornelis “Hank”

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Henry “Hank” Van Dyk of Lively Ontario, at the age of 82 on Sunday, February 7, 2021. Hank was born May 6, 1938 in Wateringen, The Netherlands. Pre-deceased by his loving wife Lorraine. Son of the late Wesley and Sophia Van Dyk. Brother of Betsy Van Dyk in The Netherlands, Gerrie and Wayne Henderson, Ben and Gail Van Dyk, and John Van Dyk. Papa to seven daughters: Cheryl McDonald, Brenda Gardener, Karen Haslam, Christine Desmond and Steve Leeds, Kim Farrington and Bob, Laurie and Roy Giles and Robin Woodley. Proud Papa of many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, a Great-Great Grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by son-in-law Norman Haslam, Gerald Woodley, brother-in-law Art Dodds, and his brother Wesley and sister-in-law Jeanette Van Dyk. Hank emigrated to Canada at age 13 with his family and worked a variety of jobs, notably INCO in Sudbury for many years and retiring from Gates Rubber in Brantford. Hank was also quite a good “back yard” mechanic and could fix most motors and machinery. Hank spent most of his life in Brantford, but his heart was in Northern Ontario and he retired to Lively. He loved fishing, camping, and he and Lorraine spent many summers camping on Rocky Island Lake. He wasn’t much for ice fishing lately because in his own words “you can’t fillet ice”. A private family gathering will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
