Terry, John Ralph

During the early morning of January 23, 2023, the love of my life and my best friend, John Terry passed away peacefully. Born in Coventry England in 1934 to the late Denis and Edith Terry (née Humpidge). Beloved husband of 66 years to Rita Terry (née York). Loving father of Craig (Carole) and Tracey (Grant) of B.C. Cherished grandfather of Braxton and Tanner. Sadly, missed by his twin sisters Sherlie and Joan of California. John served in the Royal Air Force prior to meeting Rita in 1951, when they began their life together. They married in January of 1957 and immigrated to Sudbury that same year. He went on to open his own business Terry’s Auto Body Shop on Lasalle Blvd. While John was running his own business, he pursued his teaching degree in his spare time.  He eventually sold his business and for the next 23 years was an Auto Body Instructor as well as a driver’s education instructor at Lo Ellen Secondary School. He continued to further his education and went on to earn a Master’s Degree. John retired in 1993 and enjoyed spending the winter in Florida for the next 20 years. John was a great father, a loving and caring husband an easygoing fun grandpa. A friend to many with a very kind soul and a loving heart. He had a contagious smile and a heart-warming laugh. A true gentleman that will be greatly missed and remain in our hearts forever.  The family would like to extend a heart felt thank you to the staff on the 5th floor at Extendicare York for the care and compassion they provided to John. At his request there will be no visitation or service. Donations in John’s memory can be made directly to the Alzheimer’s society https://alzheimer.ca/en
