Tenhunen, Alli Amalia (Piispala)

It is with sadness for our loss but with great joy for Mom's sake that the family announces that she was called home to her Lord and Saviour on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 at the age of 91 years. Alli was the dear daughter of Helmi and Juho Piispala both predeceased. Alli was a loving wife to Vaino who passed ahead of her to glory on November 25th, 2019 after 64 years of marriage. She was a loving mother to Sirpa Ducharme (Ray predeceased), Iiris Desjardins (John), Rita Larsen (Peter), Veli Tapio (predeceased) (Wendy) and Taina Belec (David). Grandchildren left to mourn her are Tapio Ducharme, Alina Dockery (Kristian), Darryl (Jessica), Maija, Taina Dellaire (J.P.), Tiija Luttrell (Dan), Kaija and Kari Belec; great-grandchildren Lilja and Malcolm Dockery, Reija and Daxton Dellaire, Jukka Desjardins, Ari Desjardins, Nikko and Emmi Luttrell, Tapio and Teijo Tenhunen.  Dear sister to Pentti, Hilkka Nylund (Nisse), Osmo (Elsa), Helli Persson (Ake) (all predeceased), Anja Roslund (Björn predeceased), Olavi (Ritva).  Dear sister-in-law to Irja Mäntylä (Jouko) both predeceased, Airi Mäntynen (Rauno) both predeceased, Pirjo Järvinen predeceased (Pauli), Lauri predeceased, Rauha Aarrekangas (Alpo predeceased), Raija Runni (Aarne predeceased), Taisto, Anneli Mäki (Kalevi), Raili, Seija Brännstrom (Kurt predeceased), Sointu Kivelä (Urpo), Voitto predeceased and Mirva. Lovingly remembered by many other relatives and friends in Finland and Sweden.

Alli, Vaino and Sirpa emigrated to Canada in the winter of 1957 to start a new life in Northern Ontario. Those were difficult years for a wife, and new mother, far away from any family support and not knowing the language made even more stressful. From the start Alli had SISU! She and Vaino worked hard all their lives to provide for their family. Dad would build our homes and Mom would make them beautiful and create wonderful meals for us all. As you all know, our mom made the best pulla in the world! They both loved their beautiful camp on Onaping Lake. In the winter, Mom would often cross-country ski 8 miles up the lake and be annoyed when snowmobilers would stop to offer her a ride. We miss you Aiti! We miss you Mummu! We were blessed to have you as our mom.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 9th, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Finnish Siion Pentecostal Church (1843 Paris St, Sudbury). Internment of her cremains will take place alongside her husband and son in the Maplecrest Cemetery at a later date. Donations to the Finnish Pentecostal Church would be appreciated by the family.

We were always welcome in the house on Leonard Street as friends of Tapio. Big smiles and hello’s and a big doses of finnish culture and finnglish are what I remember. A good family is strong because the roots are strong.
