Swain, Joan (nee Meilleur)

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Swain (nee Meilleur) announce her passing on Monday, September 11, 2017 at the age of 87 years. She was the youngest child of Ephram and Christina Meilleur of Sudbury. She showed great strength and dignity as she bravely fought through failing health. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 65 years, Donald Swain and her children Janice (Wade), Susan and Mark (Carol). She is predeceased by her son Bruce who was waiting to meet her to take her home. Her kindness and generosity will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Shawna, Tyler, Jennifer, Jamie, Sam, Maggie as well as Sarah, Nathan, Noah, Jake and their mother Denise. She will also be remembered by her great grandchildren. Joan always had time for her family and she made sure each one knew how special they were. Her passing leaves a void in our lives that cannot be filled but we are left instead with a lifetime of wonderful memories. Joan worked 25 years for District Social Services where she carried out her duties with empathy and grace. Joan enjoyed time with family and friends especially at their camp on Manitoulin Island. Many thanks to the 6th floor staff at Health Sciences North who cared for Joan with such kindness and care during her 6 months stay. We appreciate that Joan’s last days were spent in comfort and with dignity. A Celebration of Joan’s Life will take place at a later date.

  8. My sympathy to your family.
Joan & I shared offices when I began with District Social Services in 1978. There were many fond memories back then with many times ending in laughter. She was a good lady and mentor. So sorry for your loss.
