Stewart, Donald

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Don, who departed from this world on Sunday, December 17, 2023. He was surrounded by the love of his family, and his spirit now lives in the hearts and memories of those he touched throughout his life.

Donald was a shining light in the lives of all who knew him. With boundless compassion and unwavering kindness, he made a great impact on the world around him. He will be remembered for his humour, how he could always make light of dark situations, and the unconditional love he always shared for his family.

He was a devoted and loving husband to Lorraine Stewart who he married in 1968. He was married for 55 years. Their profound love is something admired by many, and a shining example of true love that many wish to have the pleasure of experiencing in their lifetime. Don spent his happiest years of his life building their family home on 80 acres of land, being a husband and father to their three children, Stacy, Wesley, and Kimberly Stewart, in Markstay, ON.

Donald was an exceptional father to his three children. Although they didn’t always make it easy, Don has always showed them nothing but unconditional love, and loving open arms to them and their children.

In Don’s lifetime, he has shared countless cherished memories with his loved ones. Whether it was through his passion for caring for the farm, spending summers with his grandchildren, Tashiana, Autumn, Meagan, Taylor, Ehmber, Brandon, and Chase. Teaching them to love nature, feeding the chickadees, and picking berries on the farm. Playing cribbage with his family and friends, playing catch with his growing children, fishing, and passing on the love of thrifting and yard sales. Don always loved a good deal. He would spend time collecting things and goods that could be used and passed out to the community and providing for those in need.

He had created a lifetime of simple moments, and cultivated a lifetime of beautiful experiences that will be forever cherished.

Donald will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his spirit will always live on in the memories and hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Let us celebrate the remarkable life he lived, and the love he shared with us all. May Donald Leslie Stewarts soul find eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

  2. I have known the Stewart family since my teen years when we were neighbours on Poplar Street. My sincere sympathy to Donald’s wife, children and grandchildren. May the sadness of Donald’s passing felt by his family as well as his sisters Linda and Brenda, brother Timothy, brother-in-law Rudy, nieces and nephews, be softened by the knowledge that he died with peace and dignity. My thoughts are with all of you.

  3. My condolences Aunt Lorraine, Stacy, Wesley, and Kim. This is just so difficult given how sudden everything has happened. It is also difficult for me as Uncle Don wasn’t only my Uncle, I know he was also one of my Dad’s best friends before my Dad passed away. There are many negatives to social media, but one of the best is still being able to connect and chat with people who live far away. Uncle Don and I always messaged jokes, memes and political rants back and forth. He would often include stories or comments. He told me that he had some funny stories about him and my dad when they used to travel together to and from work that he wanted to share when we next got together. I guess now the three of us will be together for that story on the other side. Love you Uncle Don.

  4. My condolence to Lorraine and the family for your loss and pain you’re going through. I always remembered Don, saw him as he was, a good man, and never forgot him as a wonderful person and co-worker as we worked together at Home Hardware. Yes he was so caring and helping at all times with everyone. A good hearted man is always easy to recognize from afar. Rest in peace Don.
