Smania, Nori

In loving memory of Nori Smania just shy of her 97th birthday who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 after a long and courageous struggle with Alzheimers disease. Nori was born in Copper Cliff to parents Virginia (Casagrande) and Luigi Smania (predeceased).  She was proud to call Copper Cliff her home her entire life.  Nori loved reminiscing about her life in Copper Cliff and was most proud of her Italian heritage.  She was a career woman and took immense pride in serving the medical community as a medical secretary.  She was well respected and held in high regard by the doctors she worked for.  Nori was most happy when surrounded by her family.  She loved to cook for them and was a loving and caring aunt to her nieces and nephews and their families.  Nori is pre-deceased by her brother Reno and her brother Bruno.  Survived by sister-in laws Amelia and Marjorie.  She will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews and their families.  Tricia Hartley (Wayne predeceased), Michael (Kerri-Lynne) and Stephen Smania and Kim Rocca (Tony). Nori held a special place in her heart for her niece Marisa (predeceased). Nori’s family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at St Gabriel’s Villa Whitewater for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Nori throughout her journey. As per Nori’s request there will be no visitation or service.  Cremation has taken place and burial alongside her parents at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations to the Alzheimers Society in Nori’s memory would be appreciated.  “Rest In Peace Nori”.

  1. My deepest sympathies to the Smania Family. Growing up Nori was a part of our family. Working at the office of my Dad, Nori was a constant figure. Nori was exceptional as the medical secretry for both my Dad’s and my uncle offices. She was so kind and funny! We all enjoyed her so much.
Even after my Dad retire I remember their luncheons at Christmas. I am so glad that they all kept in touch.
    What a life well lived!
