Sabourin, Eugene “Gene” August 15, 1932 – November 14, 2016

In loving memory of Gene Sabourin, who passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Extendicare York, Sudbury at the age of 84. Gene was born in Quebec and made his way to Ontario as a young man on his own. He was befriended by Patrick “Paddy” and Agnes Herlihy and given a job at Leitch Gold Mines near Beardmore, ON by Paddy. He worked there until the mine closed. He went to Zenmac Metal Mine near Schreiber, ON with Paddy and worked there until the closure of that mine. Paddy retired and stayed in Schreiber. Gene went to Red Lake and worked at Campbell Mine until 1992. Gene came to Sudbury that year and became part of the Jessop family, living with George and Maureen (Herlihy) Jessop until his death. A man who really had no family of his own became an integral part of the Herlihy and Jessop families. He will be missed. At Gene’s request there will be no funeral or visitation, a scattering of his remains will take place at a later date.
