It is with great sorrow that the family announces his passing in Sudbury on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the age of 74 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia on November 26, 1941. Cherished son of the late Ralph and Cora (nee Barkhouse) Owens. Alex was the beloved husband of Edna (nee Pye) for 54 years. Loving father of Mike (Laura), Garth (Stephanie) and Debbie. Devoted grandfather of Anthony, Thomas, Jasmine, Jonah and Kiley and great-grandfather of Sadie and BrayLee. He will be dearly missed by his siblings Isabel (Frank-predeceased) Rutledge, Richard (Connie) Owens, Hazel (Bernie) Flannigan, Jessie (Merle) Joudrey, Carol (Robert) Lowe, Betty (Rheal) Fraser, Vickie (David) MacDonald, Susan (Tim) McCarthy and Brenda (Jimmy) MacIsaac. Predeceased by siblings Wade, Gerald, Milton and Gloria. He will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Alex retired from I.N.C.O. in 1997 and continued trucking until 2011. He loved watching westerns with his four legged friend Mojo and spending time with his family. He will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew him. At his request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. In keeping with his last wishes his cremated remains will be scattered in Sheet Harbour, NS where he grew up and at the property in Lively where he spent most of his life.
