It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of George (Yrjo) Samuel Niemi, 82 years, who passed away at Pioneer Manor on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, two weeks short of his 83rd birthday. Beloved father of Shelley (Sean) Sweet and Darren (Nathalie) Niemi. Proud grandfather of Page Niemi, Hannah Niemi and Grace Sweet. Cherished brother to Elsie Jacobson. Fondly remembered by niece Dana Kleiser, nephew Neil Jacobson and Annette Niemi (nee Roy). Predeceased by both his parents Nestor and Eini (nee Hallikainen) Niemi. George was an extremely kind-hearted man who worked hard as an electrician for 37 years at INCO. He enjoyed being out on the lake fishing and spending time with his “furry friends”. A graveside service will be held at the Parklawn Cemetery on Wednesday, October 10th at 2:00p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at Darren's residence - contact the family for details. Shelley, all the years we have been friends, your dad was always a quiet, sweet and gentle soul and was always above all kind. And that never changed. There are no words,but take comfort in knowing he loved you and will always be with you and appreciated all that you did for him when you came to visit. Sleep well George. Tina and girls.

It was with deep sorrow that I just read in the paper about George. Since I visited my sister, across the hall from George, at Pioneer Manor, every day I did get to know George quite well. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. My sincere sympathy to the family and in particular to Darren and to Elsie. Bert and Mary D’Appolonia.
