Newman, Raymond

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Raymond Newman on Thursday, April 26 at the age of 73. Loving husband of Irene Newman (nee MacKinnon). Irene and Ray grew up on the same street in Gatchell and were married in 1973. Irene was Ray's true love and the centre of his world for over 45 years. Ray is remembered by his sons Derek and Christopher, his daughters-in-law Cindy Collins-Newman and Kirsti Kivinen-Newman and his two beautiful granddaughters Aila and Euphemia, whom he adored with all his heart. Ray was born to parents Stanley Newman and Edith Newman (nee Moore), both predeceased, on February 12, 1945. He was raised in Sudbury alongside his brother Robert (predeceased) and sister Shirley (Cook). He worked for 41 years for “Mother INCO” as an electrician in the Smelter and was an enthusiastic coin collector and long-time member of the Nickel Belt Coin Club. Ray was very proud of his coin collection and was frequently sought out for his thorough knowledge of Canadian coins. He was also an avid baseball fan and player in his youth. Most of all, Mr. Newman will be remembered for his quick wit, kindness, and devotion to his wife and family. We love you so much and will carry you forever in our hearts. The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Lodge, Dr. Hayes, Dr. Mirca, Dr. Chow, Dr. Clarke as well as the Alzheimer’s Society.
