Newman, James

It is with great sorrow that the family announces the sudden passing of Jim on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the age of 76. Son of the late Samuel Newman and late Janet (George) Freake. Cherished father of Janet (Claude) Cloutier of Kirkland Lake and Barbara (Marc) Grenier of Garson. Proud Poppy of Tanner Cloutier and Morgan Grenier. Jim will be dearly missed by his loving partner of 27 years Denise St. Georges and her children Suzanne (John) Richard, Linda (Harry) Thompson, Dan (Sirkka) St. Georges, Mike (Lisa) St. Georges and Gilles (Therese) St. Georges and her grandchildren, who called him Papa. Jim was the eldest of 7 siblings, John (Betty), Lambert (Delphine), Frances Newman, Melena (Ken) LeDrew, Margaret (Lester) Purchase, Meril (Eric) Crawford all of Newfoundland. Sadly missed by Mrs. Lewis, that thought of Jim as one of her own.  Jim was born in Windsor Newfoundland and then moved to Sudbury in the 60’s to work at Falconbridge. After 10 years in the smelter, Jim decided to self-educate himself to become a successful carpenter for over 35 years. Woodworking was his passion. He was a man of few words, but we all knew that he was creating a new project in his head. He had 34 years of sobriety and took it one day at a time. Jim and Denise loved to go to the fish fry at the Capreol Legion every week. He will be missed near and far. At Jim’s request there will be no service or visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
