Modesto, Rosa Maria (Marisa)

(1946-2024)

In loving memory of Rosa Maria Modesto (nee Sportelli), a remarkable woman, dear mother, sister, zia and nonna, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.  Beloved wife of Francesco (predeceased). Daughter of Cesario and Maria (nee Florio) both predeceased. Loving mother of Raffaella, Luciano (Cathy) and Marlene. Dear sister of Donato, Fedele (Tonia), Rosetta, Bruno, and Lidia (Michele) all of Italy. Cherished nonna to her grandchildren Francesco, Gabriella, Michaella and Serena. Dearly missed by nieces, nephews, and friends. An exceptionally wonderful and kind soul who cherished her family and adored her grandchildren. Her passions for cooking, sewing, gardening, and exploring the world left an indelible mark on our hearts.

Above all else, she loved spending time with her family; be it through her travels back to her roots in Italy each summer or gatherings in her always welcoming home. An excellent cook and baker, food was always in abundance whether preparing elaborate family meals, sending home care packages to freezers already bursting at the seams, or sharing her famous cookies, jams, and gardening tips with everyone she knew and cared for.

Marisa will be profoundly missed, but her love and legacy will forever live on in our cherished memories.

Final resting place will be next to her husband, the love of her life, at the Civic Cemetery.  There will be a gathering for family and friends at the Northbury Hotel, Hemlock Hall, 50 Brady Street, Sudbury on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Per Sempre Amato, Mai Dimenticato

  6. It was such a privilege to have known Marisa and to have witnessed first hand her love of family, of travel, of feeding her loved one, of her two countries (Italy and Canada). To us, she was a joyous, generous soul, who so obviously adored her children and grand-children. We send deepest condolences to her entire extended family. She will be missed far and wide. Here is hoping that the memory of her joy and love will in time ease your deep sadness. All our love, Rayanne, Michel and Lili
