With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Tellervo Maenpaa (nee Haapaniemi) on August 28, 2019 at Health Sciences North, at the age of 94. She was born in Ahtari, Finland to Urho and Anna. In the early 1950’s she emigrated to the Sudbury area. There she met Tyko, who was born and raised in Worthington. They soon married and built a permanent home in the south end of Sudbury, where they raised their two sons, Harvey and Martti, and remained for the rest of their lives (Tyko predeceased, 2006). She was an avid baker and a skilled knitter. Several large gardens flourished under her care. The results of her canning and preserving were enjoyed by many each year. She enjoyed quiet times spent at home and at a small cottage. She is greatly missed by her sons, a sister Elina Kataja in BC, and brother Paavo in Finland. Brothers Antti, Kalle, Reino and Sauli, are predeceased. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Ontario, BC and Finland. Her wishes were to have no visitation or formal service. A private gathering will be held later when her ashes will be buried beside her husband at Beaver Lake Cemetery. Donations to the charity of your choice will be appreciated.
