Kauppi, Donald Arvo

Donald Arvo Kauppi passed away peacefully with loving family by his side on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Health Sciences North at the age of 65. Born in Sudbury, Don was the eldest son of Arvo and Hazel Kauppi (nee Haapala). He is survived by his loving wife Donna Kauppi (nee Ferguson) of 43 years. Beloved father of Karla Oates (Rodney) and Kristy Wesley (Rob). Most proud and adored Paapa of Keegan, Liam, Hannah, Katie and Braedon. Don is survived by his siblings, Brenda Welsh (Tom), Bryan (Janyce Jordan), Doug (Sandy Gemmell) and predeceased by his youngest sister Janis Groom. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, extended family and close friends. Don and Donna were married in Lively on August 31, 1974 and together began a legacy. Don worked for over 40 years in the lumber business as a Commodity Trader and had a great rapport with many of his loyal dealers. He loved and enjoyed the outdoors; fishing bass in Harry Lake and salmon fishing on Manitoulin; hunting on Lake Penage and always enjoying a great game of golf with his buddies. Don will be remembered for his larger than life personality, his endless stories and say-sa-possings and of course was always up for a celebration with family and friends. He also knew how to give the best "squeezers", especially to his grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Kinsmen Hall, 15 Kin Drive in Lively, Ontario. A private family burial to follow.

  1. Sad to hear about big Donny! He and our father were good friends in the lumber business for a long time. We got to know Don throughout the years by having to work around the lumber yard. He would stop in to visit while on his way salmon fishing in Meldrum Bay. He was a great guy!

  2. I worked and travelled with Don for 11 years when we worked together. I have many fond memories of my time spent with him and Donna!!!!! Wonderful wonderful man. So many laughs and great times. Talked forever about his family. If you were having a rough day, just call Don and we would have you laughing immediately. I have no idea where he got his bottomless bucket of great jokes from, but I and everyone loved them!!!! Thanks for the smiles Don!!!!!! Rest in peace! My families thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time.

    With loving memories,

Jason, Anna, Pierce, and Scarlet Gulliver
